Effective TTS rates by monthly volume (planning guide) — Audra
GET /v2/usage reports an effective rate per million characters that steps down as your monthly volume grows: Growth ($20/1M from 500k), Scale ($15/1M from 5M), Enterprise ($12/1M from 50M). This post covers how to read those numbers for budgeting — and the one caveat finance always asks about.
The caveat first: tiers are planning-only
Checkout bills the flat $25/1M base today, at every volume. The tier figures are planning rates — the shape future tier billing will take — so treat them as the ceiling your spend can converge toward, not a discount you can invoice against this month. This is stated on /pricing and in the /v2/usage response itself.
Worked planning exercise: a 4M-character pipeline
A course platform rendering 4M characters a month sits in the Growth band. Planning at the $20/1M effective rate puts a $80/month line in next year's budget; at today's checkout rate the same volume is $100/month. The $20 gap is the number to track as tier billing ships — nothing else in the stack changes when it does.
Reading /v2/usage in your pipeline
- Pull effective_cpm alongside rendered characters monthly — the tier label flips mid-month at the threshold, the rate follows the band you end in.
- Watch the 500k Growth threshold if you hover near it; +10% volume changes the planning rate, not the checkout rate.
- The 50M Enterprise tier is an architecture conversation, not a self-serve one — talk to us before modeling it.
